Fr. Míceál O’Neill, O.Carm. of the Irish Province of the Order of Carmelites was elected Prior General on September 17, 2019 during the General Chapter. Father Míceál will serve as Prior General for a six year term (2019-2025) Fr. Fernando Milan Romeral O.Carm. (Spain) was the Prior General from 2007 to 2019. Fr. Benny Phang Khong Wing, O.Carm.  was elected vice prior general of the Order. Fr Benny is from the Indonesian province. He served as the General Councillor of Asia, Oceania and Australia from 2013 to 2019. The following brothers were elected to the General Council of the Order: Fr. Conrad Mutizamhepo, O.Carm. – General Councillor of Africa; Fr. Luis Maza, O.Carm. – General Councillor of Americas; Fr. Robert Thomas Puthussery, O.Carm. – General Counsellor of Asia, Oceania and Australia; Fr. Richard Byrne, O.Carm. – General Councillor of Europe.
